Momento is undoubtedly the most original and unique thriller to come out in years. Leonard (Guy Perce) is going after killer and rapist of his wife. However, he cannot remember anything short-term because of a rare memory loss condition that began after his wife's death.
What I found most fascinating is how Christopher Nolan was able to not only film the movie so well for the audience to understand despite the time flips, he was able to tell a story full of suspense and questions maintaining its own story making complete sense forwards or backwards. He uses a backwards story line to adjust us to the protagonist experience with a very subjective view. This reverse narrative only allows the audience to know as much as Leonard does, and is filmed in Black and White only.
The first time watch can be compared to nothing, yet even in rewatching the film it is still amazing. However, watching knowing certain aspects completely changes the watch as an understanding as to where the backwards plot heads changes not only how you feel towards the timeline of the story, but also to the various characters and clues throughout that are not as obvious in the first watch.
